ASSESSMENTS: An assessment takes approximately 1.5 hours and uses a series of standardised and non standardised tests. This will include a discussion with you about your childs strengths and areas for improvement. Recommendations for how Occupational Therapy can assist your child will be outlined. INDIVIDUAL THERAPY SESSIONS: Sessions are generally 60 minutes long and involve: Working directly with your child on activities to promote skill level and confidence. Parent discussion during the session to provide suggestions to incorporate strategies into daily routines SCHOOL THERAPY SESSIONS: Intervention may also occur in the school or child care setting. This helps promote a direct relationship with the staff, working with your child to ensure carryover of therapy into their daily routines. CONSULTATIONS: Working collaboratively with parents and teachers in setting goals, establishing programs and providing intervention. Sharing information and practical strategies that will assist in your child’s development and performance. HOME AND SCHOOL PROGRAMS: Individual programs are designed and monitored to meet specific goals across home, school and child care settings. EXAMINATION EXEMPTION ASSESSMENTS: In preperation for sitting internal and external exams for students with handwriting / motor difficulties. |

She is a highly experienced Occupational Therapist with over 25 years of experience working with young children through adolescents with Learning Difficulties / Dyslexia, Developmental Coordination Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Chromosomal Disorders, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Sensory Processing Difficulties and Developmental Delays. Having worked both within Australia and the USA, Melinda is committed to providing both Family Centred and Evidence Based Practice. She has 20 years of local experience working in partnership with families and many schools, child care centres and other professionals. |
